More than 30 years of experience

During the 30 years we have been investing in mining stocks, although sporadically before 1992, we have received thousands of emails from other investors, and since 1995, from subscribers. From our own experience, and from the comments of our subscribers we have learned four important things:

  — You must know yourself: What is your tolerance to risk? Can you control your emotions? Are you a gambler? Can you afford to lose money on occasions? Investing/speculating in mining stocks is not gambling. It is a business.

  — Diversify your sources of information: There is no perfect broker, there is no perfect newsletter writer, there is no perfect mining website. Again, diversify your sources of information. We will tell you where to look!

  — Unless you are managing your portfolio full time, too much stocks in one's portfolio is a proxy for ignorance: Portfolio diversification is certainly important as it allows you to spread your risks and it creates more opportunities to have big winners. But too much diversification (too much stocks) does not alllow you to follow and know well all your stocks. This, most of the time, makes you buy or sell at the wrong time and for thre wrong reasons. Our rule is simple: five (5) stocks is a minimum & fifteen (15) stocks is a maximum, each position being no less than 2% or no more than 15% of your portfolio. You might have a lot more on a watchlist of favorites, but outside of this range, you are asking for trouble. If you do not have the time to manage your stock portfolio, then either you give this job to an expert who will do it for you, or, you buy resource funds from reputable family of funds or ETFs (Exchange traded funds).

  — Timing is critical: The well-known rule is "Buy low, sell high!". We prefer to say "Sell higher than where you bought" because it is possible to buy high and sell higher. We will show you how fundamental and technical analysis can help improve your timing. Both will help you to know your stocks, a must if you want to come ahead in the markets.
